Retro Kyoto,
without the costume.

Behind a quiet street corner between Shijo and Gojo, an early-Showa machiya becomes something warmer than a “traditional restaurant.” It is a place built around food, sake, music, art and the pleasure of staying a little longer.

Counter seats and tables fill the first floor; upstairs, a tatami room creates a more private rhythm. The cooking moves from seasonal Kyoto ingredients and obanzai to generous izakaya favourites — all designed to share, and all made to sit comfortably beside sake.

Food · drink · atmosphere

Come hungry.
Leave a little “uruuru.”

The house idea is simple: serve enough to make people genuinely happy. Kyoto vegetables, fish, meat, dashi, playful small plates and the sort of fried chicken that belongs in the middle of the table — not hidden behind fine-dining ceremony.

“お店まるごとどっぷりと。” — the whole restaurant, all the way in.

Seasonal Kyoto plates

Made for the table.

Public restaurant information highlights seasonal obanzai, Kyoto ingredients, yuba cheese tempura, Uruuru potato salad and generous fried chicken. The exact à-la-carte selection changes with the season.

Japanese sake

Choose by taste.
Or by the label.

Uruuru’s official story makes sake feel deliberately uncomplicated: pick what catches your eye, ask the staff, compare a few bottles, and enjoy the process. Fushimi labels sit alongside selections from breweries around Japan.

Floor · atmosphere

A house with more than one mood.

The machiya was once connected to a gold-leaf business. Today, old wood, clocks, art and music sit beside the practical rhythm of a busy sake bar. It feels personal rather than staged.
